GE Profile PDT855SSJSS Dishwasher

This unit is the Rolls Royce of dishwashers. The unit connects to an app that lets you check the status of your wash cycle, sends you alerts, and helps you to reorder detergent all with your phone and the Amazon Alexa. As if that isn’t crazy enough, there’s actually more to this dishwasher.

Pros:

  • Adjustable upper rack
  • Stainless steal INTERIOR
  • Hidden controls, for sleek look
  • Adjustable times
  • Lots of flatware slots
  • Energy Star certification
  • A THIRD rack
  • Wifi connectivity
  • Clean really well
  • It’s super quiet

Cons:

  • Filter must be cleaned manually, not self-cleaning
  • No display, must use the app to see remaining time
  • It has a really long cycle
  • It doesn’t dry very well
  • The loading is pretty awkward due to the abundant spaces
  • It’s insanely expensive

This is a unit designed more for a well-to-do techie household with a sleek kitchen design and the need for quiet appliances. Someone who isn’t good with technology may find this unit unnecessary and impossible to use, so make sure you know what you’re doing with your smartphone before you buy this dishwasher.

Everything else about the unit makes it simply the best dishwasher to add to your appliance collection.

Bosch 800 Series SHX878WD5N Dishwasher

This unit comes in just under the GE unit. Maybe not a Rolls Royce but definitely comparable. This dishwasher also connects to wifi and has ample flatware slots, is still sleek, and really everything else the GE is, but for slightly less on the price tag.

Pros:

  • Lots of flatware slots
  • Adjustable upper rack
  • Adjustable tines
  • Displays remaining time
  • Stainless steel INTERIOR
  • Wifi connectivity
  • Extremely quiet

Cons:

  • No self-cleaning filter
  • High price tag
  • Difficult to load well
  • Doesn’t dry well
  • Prone to drain installation problems

While Bosch is generally a good brand to buy, it seems that this one is a bit overpriced for what it is. It still is one of the best dishwashers around, but for that price you could be buying a bit more- maybe not in the dishwasher department though.

Bosch SHS863WD6N 300 Series

This unit is much more reasonably priced than the last two. It has everything you need in a dishwasher, and it’s Bosch, the quietest dishwasher brand on the market.

Pros:

  • Third rack for additional loading capacity
  • Very quiet
  • Touch Control Technology
  • Quick wash cycle
  • Red light to let you know when your dishwasher is running
  • Contains leaks really well
  • 5 wash cycles
  • Sanitize option

Cons:

  • Doesn’t dry dishes
  • Setup is complicated
  • A bit expensive

This dishwasher is the best dishwasher for someone looking at top of the line products with a more reasonable price tag. The biggest complaint about all three of these units is the lack of dryness once the dishes are clean, and unless you need WiFi connectivity it seems that you’re getting the same thing with the Bosch 300 series as with the GE robot dishwasher. I would recommend this unit to someone not trying to impress company, but more themselves.

If you’re looking for quality but need a more reasonable price point to consider, there are plenty of dishwasher for under $500. While they may not have WiFi connectivity of the incredibly sleek design of the top tier price range models, they do have the functionality you want from a dishwasher.

Best Dishwasher For Under $500: Blomberg DWT24100W 24” Dishwasher

This dishwasher comes in at a cool price and has great ratings from it’s users. It has four programs and 3 different washing temperatures, adjustable racks and boasts a silent wash.

Pros:

  • Energy Star certification

Cons:

  • Prone to leaks, so a bit unreliable

You get what you pay for, and at $370 for what may be considered a luxury appliance you’re going to run into some problems. Aside from the gaskets needing to be replaced frequently on this dishwasher, it’s as good as it gets in the price range.

For those who are a little tight on space, or don’t need the full size dishwasher type I’ve been listing already, there is the 18 inch option and boy, there are plenty to choose from. But, by a long run, the Edgestar BIDW1801SS is top of the line.

This dishwasher is sleek, comes in three different colors, has two dish racks, and six wash cycles. It’s not too expensive at $450 and has a 1 year warranty. It’s a lot of bang for your buck- it’s quiet, well built, and all the cleans really well!

This dishwasher comes in at a lofty price but is honestly the quietest dishwasher. It only produces 38db when running, which is twice as loud as a whisper, but about the same as a bird call. Honestly, if you weren’t int he same room you wouldn’t even know it existed. It has six washing cycles, a super sleek design, and can hold 15 place settings. It adheres to the National Sanitation Foundation standards for cleanliness by eliminating almost all bacteria (99.9%). If a leak occurs the unit shuts down to minimize the leakage. Its really smart!

  • Load size sensor
  • Leak prevention
  • Sleek
  • Lots of loading room
  • 7 wash cycles
  • 38 dBA- Quietest Dishwasher

Cons:

  • Expensive

Tips For Using Your Dishwasher Correctly

Do not put too many dishes inside.

If you overload your dishwasher! It’s like putting too many items in the sink, nothing gets totally clean so you have to wash things twice, which puts the strain of another wash on your unit.

Make sure you use a surge protector

Sometimes power surges are high enough to completely ruin any appliance, including your dishwasher. To avoid this problem, just plug your unit into a surge protector instead of directly into the wall socket.

Don’t load food covered dishes into the unit

If you put your dirty dishes into your dishwasher with food still on them then stop now. Leaving all that food on your flatware can damage your drain pump or the motor. So just take an extra minute to rinse them off in the sink or scrape your food into the bin.

Don’t use too much soap

If you put too much soap into the unit it can lead to buildup and damage certain parts on the inside fo your dishwasher. Try running your dishwasher with a full cap of vegetable oil to clean off the soap buildup about once a month.

Do not partially fill your dishwasher

If you don’t fully utilize the space inside your unit then you’re wasting resource and also allowing dishes to shift about with the force of water spraying and possibly damage the unit.

Unload the bottom rack first

You should also unload the bottom rack first as the top rack items tend to collect water and spill it all over the dishes on the bottom. If you want the driest dishes possible, unload the bottom rack first.

Read the manual

Some dishwashing units require regular maintenance.  The only way you will know what that could be is if you actually read the owners manual instead of chucking it upon installation.

In the end, having a dishwasher can dramatically improve your life. But before spending any large sum of money on any appliance it’s important to do your due diligence and research the products, scouring reviews across multiple sites and calling up friends who have purchased similar items. Good luck!
